Gather Materials
While you’re choosing materials for your luggage tag, consider the type of leather that you want to use. It should be somewhat stiff to ensure it’s durable and sturdy while attached to your bag. You can also use a faux leather if you prefer. Your adhesive should be extremely strong and work well with leather, so we suggest E6000.

Cut Pieces
Start by cutting pieces of leather for your tag. We cut two pieces that were each 2.5 inches x 3.5 inches, and one piece that was 8 inches by 1/2 an inch. For your long thin piece, you’ll need to measure the width of your metal buckle and make sure that the leather is narrow enough to fit through.
Add Name Tag
Cut a piece of cardstock that’s smaller than your large rectangular pieces by 1/2 an inch on each side. Write your name and information on the cardstock. Place one leather rectangle right side down and place the cardstock in the center of the leather.
Cut Window
On the other rectangle, measure a three-sided cut so that when placed over the top of the name tag, it opens to reveal your information. Make this cut using an X-Acto knife.
Add Glue
Place a line of glue on the top, bottom, and right side of the bottom piece of leather, surrounding the name tag. Be sure not to add glue on the left side. You’ll leave this side unglued so that if you need to slide the information card out, you’ll be able to do so.
Combine Layers
Place the layer with the three-sided cut over the top of the glued layer and press them together so that they adhere firmly. Set aside and allow to dry until the layers are completely adhered.
Cut Slit
Once the two layers are adhered, cut a slit on the left side of the luggage tag, through both layers. This should be the side with no glue applied. Center the cut and make sure it’s wide enough for your long thin piece of leather to slide through easily.
Punch Holes
On your long piece of leather, punch a single hole on one end, about 1 1/2 inches from the end. On the other end, punch a series of three holes.
Create Strap
Create your strap by inserting the hook of your buckle through the single hole, wrapping the short end of leather around, and glueing it to itself. Allow the glue to dry completely. Then you can slide the other end through the slit in your luggage tag and it will wrap around to buckle in on itself.
Add to your Suitcase
Add your identification to your suitcase and away you go with your fancy new leather luggage tag!
